25. Ehrung „Junge Könner brauchen Gönner“

Am 21. August 2020 holte die Zweigestelle Odenwald der Deutschen Olympischen Gesellschaft im Erbacher Volksbank Atrium endlich nach, was schon im März ein Meilenstein ihrer eigenen Geschichte hätte sein sollen: Die 25. Veranstaltung der Aktion „Junge Könner brauchen Gönner“.
Die Corona-Pandemie ließ im Frühjahr diesen Jahres die meisten Veranstaltungen ins Wasser fallen, ohne Aussicht auf Ausweichtermine zu geben. „Auch für uns als DOG sah es lange nicht so aus, als fänden wir einen Ersatztermin. Letztlich wollten wir aber sehr bewusst die doch sehr massiven Auflagen in Kauf nehmen, um unseren Athletinnen und Athleten ihre verdienten Auszeichnungen überreichen zu können“, erklärt der Vorsitzende Johann Weyrich die Entscheidung, die Jubiläumsausgabe im reduzierten Rahmen stattfinden zu lassen.
Die Odenwälder Nachwuchssportlerinnen und Nachwuchssportler, die sich im Jahr 2019 auf Landes-, Bundes- oder internationaler Ebene auszeichneten, folgten fast vollzählig der Einladung der DOG. Insgesamt konnten über 40 Talente mit über 6.000 Euro unterstützt werden. Highlight der 60-minütigen Ehrung war die Übergabe des Stipendiums. Der Höchster Moritz Kumpf wurde im vergangenen Jahr Deutscher Meister im Rope Skipping und belegte dreimal den dritten Rang. Der 16-Jährige, der 2018 auch schon Teilnehmer der Weltmeisterschaften in Shanghai war, erhält als Würdigung seiner Leistung eine einjährige finanzielle Unterstützung.
